Outdoor Gas Grills
One thing that will never disappear from homes is outdoor gas grills. Everyone loves summer barbecues and the
rich flavor of grilled food. Before you get into the heat of the fun though, you should at least find out as much
as you can about gas grills for outdoor use.
Grill Material
Outdoor grills should first and foremost be built to last. Unlike indoor grills, models used outside your home
need to be durable and resistant to various environmental conditions. Brands that should be on your list of choices
are those that are made of stainless steel. Although some parts of a grill may be made of plastic, the grill plates
and other parts that come into contact with heat should be made of hard material like steel.
Not every stainless steel grill however is what it seems. Steel can come in various grades of hardness and
durability. Low cost grills also have low cost steel parts. Before buying, make sure you read several product
reviews. Of course, price is also sometimes an indication of product quality.
Grill Maintenance
Stainless steel is known to be resistant to heat, cold, rust and stains. The material however can corrode if it
isn’t properly cared for. Food particles, dirt and harsh cleaning substances can all corrode steel. This is why you
should always clean your grill after using it. Using warm, soapy water and a soft sponge are advisable.
There is more to outdoor gas grills than steel parts. Make sure you take special care to check your grill’s gas
hose too. Any damage to the hose, no matter how minor is an indication that it has to be replaced immediately.
Aside from checking the hose, check its point of attachment to the gas tank as well.
Regular general grill checkups should be done at least twice a year. Give your grill a thorough look over before
and after the barbecue season.
Safe Use
There are specific safety precautions that should always accompany gas grill use. Aside from paying close
attention to the integrity of your gas hose, you should also pay attention to the grill’s surroundings. Don’t use
your grill where there are lots of dry leaves or wood chips. Obviously, you also shouldn’t operate your grill near
gas containers or other flammable substances. Kids should also not be allowed to operate a grill or play around
it.
Gas grills should ideally be used outdoors where there is proper ventilation. It is often considered unsafe to
use gas grills indoors or in partially enclosed areas. This is why gas units are often not allowed in apartments
and other similar living accommodations. If you want to grill food indoors, your only alternative is to use an
electric grill.
Outdoor gas grills are valuable summer appliances. No family should go without one. Make sure though that you
choose, use and maintain your grill properly. You definitely don’t want a tragedy in your hands. Following the
right pieces of advice can enhance your summer grilling experience.
